PRESS RELEASE CAR SHOW AND HALLOWEEN PET PARADE
On Saturday the Lake Whitney Chamber of Commerce held it’s 5th. annual Discover Downtown Whitney and Classic Car Show along with the 3rd. annual Halloween Costume Pet Parade.
Approximately 1,000 people braved the sprinkling rain to view the cars and march their pets. The afternoon weather was great and many awards were given out to the 35 car entries and 20 pet parade entries.
1st. place winner in the pets was Ginger a mix breed shown by Johnny Rowland of Whitney. Besides a trophy he received a Pet Smart gift certificate. Pix attached #091
2nd. pace went to Phoebe, a toy poodle with owner Carol Archer of Whitney.
3rd. place went to T-bone, an English bulldog with owner Debbie Jones of Whitney. An Honorable mention ribbon award went to Rod, a Yorkie with owner Nan Russell of Morgan. All the entrants received doggy treat bags for participating. This has become a very popular event and we look forward to it next year.
A 50/50 raffle was held with proceeds going to Debbie Clay of Whitney and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
In the car show category, may awards were given out. Top prize of People’s Choice went to Bob Comer of Whitney with his 1957 Cadillac Convertible. This was strictly judged by the spectators. Pix #074
For the rest of the show, Judges carefully looked at many categories in deciding the winners. Trophies were passed out to all with door prizes for everyone from Bossier’s Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Bosque County Classic Car Club, donations from the Lake Whitney Chamber of Commerce with everyone receiving a prize. 1st. place Glenn Eastwood of Robinson with a 1965 Dodge Coronet, 2nd. place to Ronny Shiflet of Whiney with a 1969 Ford Cobra and 3rd. place to Clarence Deegan of Laguna Park with a 1966 Dodge Charger.
70’s to 79’s:
Carol Archer of Whitney got 1st. place with a 1976 Triumph Spitfire.
80’s to 99’s:
Bobby Clarkin of Whitney got 1st. place with a 1993 Ford Mustang GT.
2000’s & Up:
1st. place to Bill West of Whitney for his 2002 Corvette Convertible and 2nd. place to Robert Hatherly of Whitney with a 2004 Corvette Coupe. ***We are holding his trophy as he had to leave early.
Pre 59 Trucks:
1st place to David Clendenen of Whitney with a 1954 Ford Pick Up and 2nd. place to John Brown of Valley Mills with a 1958 Chevy Apache.
60 & Up Trucks:
1st. place to Rick Diefenderfer of Joshus with a 1964 Ford F100 and 2nd. place to Bobby Gardner of Laguna Park with a 1970 Chevy 1/2 Ton Truck.
Tractors:
1st. place to Frank H. Morrow of Clifton with a 1976 White Garden Tractor
