IntegraCare Home Health
IntegraCare was formed in 1998 as a home health and community care services company with locations in Bedford, Mineral Wells, Graham, Bowie and Lubbock, Texas. The original founders of the Company include Chris Gerard, Vice President, Central Region, IntegraCare, and three other investors. As the impact of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 began to affect the home health industry, the original four founders agreed to partner together to improve their potential for success in what would appear to be a difficult environment.
During the period of consolidation of the early 2000s, IntegraCare expanded its home health division into new geographics, with a focus on rural communities by opening branch offices or making small acquisitions. By early 2007, the home health division grew to eighteen locations and approximately 1,000 patients.
In order to add to the Company’s continuum of care, the founders opened their first hospice location in Fort Worth in 2001, and soon thereafter, an alternate delivery site was opened in Mineral Wells. Through de novos, four hospice locations were established by early 2007.
The Company’s Community Services division, which consisted of Community Based Alternatives (CBA) and Primary Home Care (PHC) contracts (state-funded long-term care programs for Medicaid recipients meeting certain health care needs criteria) grew from zero patients to approximately 600 by early 2007.
In 2006, the founders decided to take IntegraCare to the market! Private equity buyers demonstrated the most interest, and as a result, the founders later recapitalized with Flexpoint Ford in July of 2007.
At the time of the recap, the decision was made to primarily focus on scalability, infra-structure and long-term sustainable growth. Ultimately, some of the founders left their positions with the Company, but Chris Gerard served as the Company’s Chief Executive Officer.
From 2008 through 2010, four key positions were identified and filled to build a talent-rich organization and other senior level positions followed.
From a technology perspective, the Company’s server-based point-of-care software was replaced with a powerful, fully integrated back office software, in the 4th quarter of 2009, and to date Company field employees use state-of-the-art handheld android devices.
In September 2012, IntegraCare was acquired by Kindred Healthcare, doubling their home health and hospice division’s locations and allowing them to expand into Texas.
