Whitney Area Museum
303 North Brazos St, Whitney
Whitney Area Museum was established in 1990, and features local historical exhibits. On display is a copy of the Life magazine detailing the famous Whitney “Battle of the Benches”. There are interesting exhibits on the building of the Whitney Dam, and the tourism that soon followed.
The museum, located in the old post office building, features a mural painted in 2001 by local artist Ray Istre on the south side of the building. It is typically open Saturdays from 9:15 am – 2:00 pm, spring through fall. Call 254-694-6595 for more information. Stop by for a bit of history along the chiseled trail.
