Hewitt’s Annual Dog Days of Summer

Hewitt — The dogs will have their day at Hewitt’s annual Dog Days of Summer Canine Event sponsored by the City of Hewitt, Hewitt Public Library and the Friends of the Hewitt Public Library. The weekend will kick off with music provided by the Morticians on Friday night June 19th, at 7:30 PM. Then on Saturday, June 20th from 9am until 1pm we will host a morning filled with demonstrations, education, music, fur-photographs and a lot of fun activities at 801 Hewitt Drive, Hewitt Park.

Waynette Ditto, Library Director for Hewitt Public Library said “this free event will provide the local and extended community with a fun family day where they can enjoy a variety of activities, learn from experts, and connect with other dog lovers.”

The celebration will include the traditional doggie fun and a Winnie dog race contest. The Houston Disc Dogs will present three performances throughout the morning as well as herding demonstrations. Attendees will enjoy a canine fashion show, performances by canines, “Glam fur” photographs, canine contests, and a vendor area. Pet rescue groups, pet care information, and pet adoptions will be available.

It is a fundraising event for the library, but most importantly it’s about getting the pet owners to celebrate with their dogs. Admission for visitors is free. But, there will be a small fee to enter dogs in the various contests. We will also accept donations of dry dog food to be distributed to participating shelters. We are seeking sponsorships as well as vendors to participate. We are also asking for participation from local organizations and clubs too.

Anyone interested in volunteering or sharing ideas should call 254-666-2442 or visit our Facebook page at Hewitt’s Dog Days of Summer.
