Veterans Day Celebrations
There are several options for celebrating Veterans Day in Hill County. I hope you will choose the one that fits you and honor our veterans! Veterans Day is Tuesday, November 11th.
1. Hillsboro Parade and wreath laying. At 8:45, Hillsboro Jr High students will present a short program in their auditorium, then lead a parade from the school to the Courthouse Square. At 9:30am, ceremonies begin with Vietnam Vet Dave Holman of the Whitney Disabled American Veterans the keynote speaker. We have participated in this ceremony for several years and will be laying a wreath in honor of our veterans.
2. Veterans balloon release,Tuesday,November 11, 2014, 9:15 am on Baker Field. Melaney O’Neil reports that Whitney Elementary School students will be honoring our veterans with a balloon release Tuesday.
She is trying to invite as many veterans as possible and would appreciated you spreading the word. They will be gathering on the football field and forming the letters USA and then releasing the balloons after Melaney says a few words of appreciation.
3. Lake Whitney Public Library: A Veterans Day celebration will be held at 10:00 AM to honor veterans living in the Whitney area and beyond. Veterans of all ages are asked to attend and be honored for the gift they have given their country. Music will be provided by the Whitney High School choir and the Country Club Retirement community hand bell choir. Everyone is invited to attend and offer their personal thanks to the local veterans.
