The Lake Whitney area is served by two public libraries.

Lake Whitney Public Library

Begun in the 1960’s, and now supported by the city, the Lake Whitney Public Library provides free services to all residents living within county boundaries, with services available to others for a fee. Patrons can search among over 25,000 items, including books, DVDs, audio books, music CDs, movies, and videos.

The children’s area has a large selection of books, along with fun crafts, suggested reading materials, Accelerated Reader list, and an AP list for High School and Middle School students.

Besides fiction and non-fiction books, the adult area includes a reference section, large print books, materials on local history, and a genealogy section. The Interlibrary Loan program allows patrons to borrow materials from other libraries. A Book Club is active at the library. GED classes are taught.

Six computers are available to be used by anyone, along with wi-fi service. Computer and internet classes are available, along with study rooms. Copying and fax services are available. When the Library Journal Index released their 2010 list of America’s Star Libraries, the Lake Whitney Public Library was one of only nine libraries selected in Texas.

The selection reflects the library’s community support, modern facilities and technology, and well rounded collection catering to the needs of the community, including programs offering information and entertainment.

The library’s website has a searchable online catalog, links for “News & Events” and “Special Programs” to let you know what’s happening at the library, and lots of other helpful information. Volunteers are always welcome to help at the library.

Laguna Park Library

The Laguna Park Library and Media Center has been in operation since 2003.

Besides its collection of almost 7,000 books, it offers computer classes, a book club, art classes, and children’s activities. There are four computers available to anyone who wants to use them. A public wi-fi hotspot is available in the library, and in the parking lot outside the library after hours.

The library receives no public funding, and so relies on a very active volunteer staff who oversee numerous fundraising events. In the winter, they offer a “Soups2Go” lunch program which is quite popular.

The library is located on Highway 22, just west of the dam.
